What is “betterment” or “depreciation”?Betterment or depreciation is a term used by insurance companies to describe the decrease in the value of your vehicle due to normal wear and tear over time. When your car is repaired, the insurance company may deduct a certain amount from the claim payout for betterment, which is the estimated value of the vehicle's parts that were replaced due to normal wear and tear. This means that you may be responsible for paying a portion of the repair costs out of pocket if the insurance company determines that the repaired parts have increased the overall value of your car.
